Lexa Harmon

Restoring Power Program Advocate Lexa Harmon knows that her work with victim-survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault can be complex. Each client has a unique history, set of circumstances, and needs. She also knows that one universal need must be met first.

“Listening and believing the client is the most important part of my job,” she says. “If just one person believes them, that can make a huge difference,”

Lexa comes to NYFS from Family Pathways where she served as an advocate for victim-survivors in rural Minnesota. She’s glad she can collaborate with NYFS’ Restoring Power therapists to help ensure that clients receive a deeper level of care. “It is hard to participate in your healing when you’re also worried about your safety,” she says, adding that one of the best parts of her job is helping clients regain their confidence and know they have the ability to change their circumstances.

“The victim-survivor has agency throughout this process,” Lexa says. “And that kind of power can be very healing.”
