We’re thrilled to shine this month’s Staff Spotlight on Isabela Mastel, whose journey with NYFS is a true testament to growth, dedication, and the opportunities offered through our Internship Program.
Isabela first joined NYFS as a graduate intern. From the beginning, she showed empathy, professionalism, and an eagerness to learn. While embracing every opportunity to grow, Isabela made a lasting impact on clients, colleagues, and supervisors.
“My internship experience was very positive.” Isabela shares. Despite the whirlwind of flooding information and responsibilities, Isabela never felt lost and especially appreciated the friendly, welcoming environment the staff created.
That experience brought Isabela back to NYFS, where she now works as a therapist supporting youth and families. In her role, she helps clients navigate challenges such as family system changes, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Isabela brings a client-centered and culturally responsive approach to her work. She believes that therapy is most effective when it honors and reflects the identities and lived experiences of each client.
“There’s a lot of fear and anxiety about what’s safe and what’s not,” she says. “Being able to create another safe space for people is one of my biggest goals.”
Through Isabela’s care and commitment, NYFS continues to provide compassionate, culturally responsive therapy for youth and families. To learn more about our Internship Program or therapeutic services, visit our website here.
