“My hope for my clients is increased self-compassion, intergenerational healing, deeper community connection, healed relationships, and a stronger connection to themselves and the people in their lives,” shares Clinic-Based Therapist Nyes Shuck.
Before joining NYFS, Nyes began their journey at Roots Wellness Center, where they provided support to caregivers navigating substance use while parenting young children. Their work centered on strengthening caregiving relationships, reducing barriers to treatment, and recognizing substance use as a response to trauma.
Nyes’ commitment to providing care for children and adults continues to guide their work at NYFS. They are passionate about supporting children and families as they heal from intergenerational trauma while honoring their resilience and strengths. As a therapist, they bring a strong social justice lens to their practice, helping clients understand the broader societal and cultural contexts that shape their experiences.
“It’s important to name and acknowledge how systems work,” Nyes explains, “to recognize what we can change, where change is possible, and to remember that nothing can be changed until it is faced.” They add, “Meaningful change begins with facing hard truths and understanding how larger systems influence personal struggles.”
