NYFS is proud to share our Clinical Ladders Program! Many mental health providers build specialized skills in an area or areas of practice, and NYFS is invested in providing wrap around training and support for staff to use their passion to deepen their clinical work in an area of expertise!
Our Clinical Ladders Program offers well-developed training pathways for new and experienced providers, and a salary increase and title adjustment to reflect the investment in learning for those who complete this specialized training. We have staff and consultants with expertise in these areas of practice who ensure a comprehensive, thoughtful, fun training experience!

In the Clinical Ladders Program:

NYFS CLINICAL LADDERS PROGRAM
Clinical Specialist Training and Development Tracks:
Each track contains work in four domains (training, consultation, organizational integration, and implementation of learning). The requirements for each domain vary based off of track, select tracks below to expand for more details.
Trauma Specialist
Training
- Specialized trauma treatment raining in two evidenced based modalities (one each for children and adults; NYFS will send you to Narrative Exposure Therapy and TB-CBT Training)
- Read two core trauma treatment texts
- Attend annual agency training in trauma informed care, trauma treatment, and secondary traumatic stress
Consulation
- 80% attendance at Trauma Treatment Drop-In Consult
- Presentation of at least four intensive trauma consultations using the Lansen Haans Model within 18 months
- Complete at least four process recordings in clinical supervision
Organizational Integration
- Trauma Resoonsive Care Committee participation
Implementation of Learning
- Development of an Individual Wellness and Work Sustainability Plan
- Complete Trauma Processing using each of two modalities with at least two clients (four trauma treatments)
Couples and Families Specialist
Training
- Training in at least one couple or family intervention. NYFS will get you trained in The Gottman Method
- Read two core couple or family treatment texts
- Attend annual agency training on couple or family intervention
Consultation
- 80% attendance at LMFT Group Supervision or Drop In Consult
- Presentation of at least four couple/family consultations using the Lansen Haans Model within 18 months
- Complete at least four process recordings in clinical supervision
Organizational Integration
- Participate as a presenter in introductory training for interns on couple and family therapy intervention and provide ongoing support
Implementation of Learning
- Have at least three couple or family cases on caseload consistently for 18 months (getting 75% of the way through treatment)
- Development of an Individual Wellness and Work Sustainability Plan
Play Therapy Specialist
Training
- Training in at least one non-directive play therapy intervention. NYFS will get you trained in child centered play therapy
- Read two core play therapy texts
- Train through observation in session or role-play
Consultation
- 80% attendance at Play Therapy Drop In Consult
- Presentation of at least six Play Therapy consultations using the Lansen Haans Model within 18 months with a range of presenting ages
- Complete at least four process recordings in clinical supervision
Organizational Integration
- Participate as a presenter in introductory training for interns on Child Centered Play therapy intervention and provide ongoing support
Implementation of Learning
- Development of an Individual Wellness and Work Sustainability Plan
- Have at least four play therapy cases successfully complete treatment
Clinical Supervision Specialist
(Must be approaching 2 years post graduate or pre-licensure.)
Training
- Complete 45 CEUs of training on providing clinical supervision
- Attend annual agency training on Reflective Practice Supervision
- Read two core supervision texts
Consultation
- 80% attendance at monthly Clinical Supervisor Consultation
- Presentation of at least two consultations using the Lansen Haans Model within 18 months with a range of presenting ages
- Complete at least two process or audio recordings of clinical supervision with different supervisees
Organizational Integration
- Participate in an NYFS Committee as a clinical leader
Implementation of Learning
- Development of an Individual Wellness and Work Sustainability Plan
- Have at least two clinical supervisees complete internships
Process
- Complete an application now to join one of the organization’s Clinical Ladders.
- Your clinical supervisor will work with you to track your progress,
- There will be an annual check in with your clinical supervisor, program manager, and mental health director to review progress and to provide program feedback.
