Art Therapy in the White Bear and Shoreview, MN Area
NYFS is proud to offer Art Therapy offered by Certified Art Therapists in our Clinic-Based Program. Art Therapy is a form of therapy that uses artistic expression as a means of deepening one’s understanding of oneself and making meaning out of our experiences in the world. Art therapists use a combination of talk therapy and creating art to help facilitate a client’s healing.
Art therapy can be helpful for a variety of mental health concerns, and is used for children, adolescents, and adults. It can be offered in a group setting or in 1:1 individual therapy. Art therapy can help people with depression, anxiety, relationship and life transition challenges, grief and loss, identity development, ADHD, autism, bipolar and other mood disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, among others.
For individuals with trauma, especially if that trauma happened before the client has conscious memories that they can recall, or it has been stored somatically (in their body), art therapy can be especially helpful as it can support the client in processing difficult life experiences that the client may not have the words to be able to process, because it wasn’t stored with words.
