Diah Swenson is a School-Based Therapist Intern at Northeast Youth & Family Services (NYFS) and a Master of Social Work candidate at the University of St. Thomas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in General Studies with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Southwest Minnesota State University.
Before entering the field of social work, Diah worked in health and wellness, including as a group fitness instructor with Corporate Health Unlimited and as a physical therapy aide at OSR Physical Therapy. These experiences helped shape her interest in the connection between physical health, mental health, and overall well-being.
Diah completed her first clinical practicum at Washburn Center for Children, where she worked with elementary-aged children in a day treatment setting using a trauma-informed and relationship-based approach. Her experience at Washburn strengthened her interest in supporting children and adolescents while looking beyond behavior to better understand the needs, experiences, and emotions underneath it.
At NYFS, Diah is continuing her clinical training in school-based mental health at St. Anthony Middle School. She is especially interested in working with children, adolescents, and families and supporting young people with ADHD, anxiety, emotional regulation, identity development, and other mental health concerns. Diah approaches her work with curiosity, authenticity, humor, and a strong belief in meeting young people where they are.
