Vanessa received her bachelor’s in psychology from California State Northridge University and is currently finalizing her master’s in social work from Augsburg University. She volunteered for years in special education and also worked with families healing from trauma and abuse in domestic abuse situations.
In the last few years, she has leaned on her Spanish background to work in a couple of distinct roles. The first was working in the Minneapolis School District as a Spanish teacher and a supervisor. The other was helping Latino newcomers and their families to navigate their challenges and address any mental health issues. This experience motivated her to want to empower marginalized communities and continue improving her skills to be able to help them more effectively.
She enjoys having coffee with friends, writing, doing yoga and spending time with family. She recently discovered her love of dogs after adopting her puppy “Blue.”
